How does Host in Cloud content get updated?

There are three alternate ways to refresh cloud content when source content is revised

Traditionally through the history of AVAIL, there was no need for AVAIL to do anything when content files were updated (edited, saved) on the network. Updated files were immediately available in AVAIL because AVAIL stored only a link to the source file. No file copy was made or stored. If the source file changed, that’s what AVAIL would deliver, always.

Things are different with Host in Cloud channels. A copy of the source file is made, and stored on a cloud server. The cloud copy of the content has to be refreshed as updates are made to the source file.

There are three alternate ways to refresh cloud content

One of the following is required:

  1. An AVAIL Publisher will manually re-index updated content, dragging and dropping it from the network into the local side of an AVAIL Host in Cloud channel.
    • When re-indexed, Publishers will then see a blue dot on the Publish to Cloud button in the Host in Cloud channel, indicating that updates are ready to push to the cloud. Pushing the button completes the push to the cloud.

  2. An AVAIL publisher can select the out of date content in the local side of the Host in Cloud channel and then right-click on the content and choose: Publishing> Upload Content to Cloud. This updates the cloud instance.
    • There will be no blue dot on the Publish to Cloud button because the cloud publish is already done.

  3. Use AVAIL Stream to monitor network folders for updates, additions and removals.
    • Stream will push updates from the network into the local side of Host in Cloud channels, automatically.
    • Publishers will then see a blue dot on the Publish to Cloud button on the local side of the Host in Cloud channel, indicating that an update is ready to push to the cloud. Pushing the button completes the push to the cloud.

Note: AVAIL's Revit versioning feature for Enterprise accounts is cloud-based and relies on the refresh methods above. There is related information here: How to Initiate AVAIL's Revit Content Versioning
