How to Initiate AVAIL's Revit Content Versioning
Your starting point depends on channel status
AVAIL's Revit Version Management feature is reserved for Enterprise-level subscriptions. Please contact support@getavail.com to activate this feature.
*Additional costs may apply based on the number and size of files being versioned.
What to Expect:
Once the feature is enabled on your account, application versioning is applied to all Revit content in all Host in Cloud (HiC) channels. Content in those channels is automatically upgraded to all newer versions of Revit.
For example:
- If Chair1.rfa is version 2018 and indexed into AVAIL, AVAIL upgrades Chair1 to versions '22, '23, '24, '25, '26 and '27. AVAIL versions the content quietly, in the background. Multiple versions of the file are not presented to the user.
- When users drag and drop Chair1.rfa into Revit from AVAIL desktop, AVAIL will automatically serve the correct version of Chair1, matching the active session of Revit.
Revit element file versions are stored by AVAIL on demand in a hidden local cache, which AVAIL refreshes when content is updated. If you right-click on content in AVAIL Host in Cloud channels, and choose "Open Location" you can see the cache with the versioned files stored in the folder "Files"
Please advise: The Autodesk versioning that takes place may take an undetermined amount of time. AVAIL batch processes 100 files in 5-minute increments to expedite the processing; however, it may take much longer for the versioning to be completed.
Users should allow a minimum of 30 minutes (from the time the content is published to the cloud) for versioning to take effect.
To Start Versioning
When versioning is enabled at your account, what happens next depends on whether your Host in Cloud channels have content published to the cloud already or not.
To get your channels in a ready state, for all content that was previously published to the cloud side of a Host in Cloud Channel, before versioning was enabled at your account, do the following:
- Select all content in the channel, then
- Right-click and choose: Publishing> Upload Content to Cloud
Now your channel is ready for normal operation of versioning going forward.
Once versioning is enabled, all content thereafter published through the Host in Cloud [Publish to Cloud button], will be versioned.
- This includes newly indexed content, manually indexed or Streamed.
- It also includes previously indexed content that you re-indexed (or Streamed) because the content has been edited at its source.

Tip: See here for more information about how cloud content is refreshed in AVAIL Host in Cloud when updated at the source:
