What is the difference between a regular channel and a Host in Cloud channel?
Host in Cloud (HiC) channels store and present content differently
AVAIL Host in Cloud (HiC) Channels have two “sides”:
-
a Local side, with its links to content source on the network, and
-
a Cloud side that stores a copy of the content on an AWS server.
This provides AVAIL Publishers the ability to index (link) into AVAIL on the Local side of a channel and test content prior to publishing to AVAIL Consumers who see only the Cloud side of HiC Channels.
Regular AVAIL Channels have only one side, the local side. See images below.

The local side of a channel is editable by Publishers.
On the local side, content is added, removed, and updated (re-indexed), and tags are edited.
The local side of a channel is mirrored to the cloud side when AVAIL Publishers, with edit access to the channel, click the “Publish to Cloud” button in the local side of the channel.
When Published to the Cloud, the content is pulled from the network source and copied to AVAIL’s Amazon server.
Note: The right click command “Add to Channel” is used to AVAIL copy content from the local side of one channel, to the local side of one or more other channels. Content can be presented in multiple channels in cases where that's useful.
In that case, the content is not actually copied though, because content in regular channels, and on the local side of HiC channels, are links only. The content object in AVAIL is only a link to content source (on network, in ACC, in Egnyte, etc.), plus meta-data and a preview image.
When content is AVAIL Copied, the object ID of the content simply receives an additional channel listing(s).
