Related Content Overview
Connect different pieces of content to enhance navigation and build relationships between content in AVAIL.
What is Related Content in AVAIL?
Related Content is a feature of AVAIL that allows you to create relationships between items indexed into AVAIL. Anything that can be indexed into AVAIL, including files and URLs, can participate in these relationships.
The purpose of Related Content is to represent the fact that individual files are often part of a broader idea, assembly, system, product, project, or workflow. The related items remain distinct resources, but AVAIL connects them so users can move easily between them.
- A detail or schedule that is expected any time a specific Revit family is used.
- The specifications for a manufacturer's content.
- An important safety or installation document for a piece of content.
Relating content ensures that helpful or necessary relevant content items in the AVAIL library are immediately available along with the content itself.
Guiding question:
“Is this a separate content resource that the user may want to discover or use?”
If the answer is yes, it should generally be Related Content.

Downloaded Related Content will go to the standard AVAIL Host in Cloud cache location, %localappdata%\Avail\cache\content.
Best Practices
Using Related Content when:
- One content item is meaningfully connected to another content item.
- The related item has value or identity on its own.
- A user may want to navigate to, inspect, download, load, or reuse the related item.
- The relationship expresses composition, dependency, association, similarity, or membership in a larger system.
- The connection should support broader discovery across AVAIL.
