Navigating the Desktop

This article & video introduce new users to the Avail Desktop interface, focusing on how to search, browse, preview, and manage content efficiently.

Video Outline

1. Getting Started with Avail Desktop

When you log in to Avail Desktop, you’ll land on your homepage.
This page displays a collection of channels that have been shared with you — each channel representing a library of organized content.

You can start exploring immediately by using the search bar at the top of the screen. Simply type a keyword to search across all your available channels.

2. Understanding Search Behavior

Avail’s search engine prioritizes results based on:

  • Item name relevance

  • Associated tags applied to the content

This ensures that the most relevant items appear first, helping you locate files quickly.

3. Browsing and Filtering Channels

If you prefer to browse rather than search:

  • Double-click a channel to view its contents.

  • Use sorting and filtering options to organize results (e.g., by name, type, or date).

  • Apply tags and filters located at the bottom of the window to narrow results.

You can select one or multiple tags to focus your search even further and locate exactly what you need.

4. Previewing and Interacting with Content

Once you’ve found the desired file:

  • Single-click the item name to open a high-resolution preview in a new window.

  • Alternatively, open the preview panel on the right-hand side to view content inline.

  • Use this panel to also view flags and comments, making it easy to collaborate and review project notes.

5. Navigating the Interface

You can return to the homepage at any time by:

  • Clicking the Home button at the top, or

  • Selecting the Channel button in the toolbar.

These shortcuts make it easy to jump between channels or restart a new search session.

Key Takeaways:

  • Use flags and comments to alert your team to content issues.

  • View flagged items easily with the “Flagged Content” filter.

  • Close the loop after resolution by removing flags and adding comments.

  • The “Needs Attention” tag helps publishers find and manage flagged content efficiently.

  • These tools enhance collaboration, accountability, and content quality within Avail.
