Use these steps to get AVAIL to use your custom preview images on HiC content
The process for using custom thumbnails for Host in Cloud (HiC) content can be somewhat tricky (and involve more steps than are required when not using custom thumbnails).
Note 1: a custom thumbnail is an image file (jpg, png or tif) that is in the same folder and has the same name as the primary file.
There are a number of variables. First, for Harvest content:
-
Harvest content to channel
-
Copy custom thumbnails to directory
-
Virtualize thumbnails (either individually, or across the entire channel)
-
Choose HiC in menu (if publishing a new channel), or if existing, click cloud icon to publish
For indexed content, you can skip the extra step of virtualizing thumbnails, if the custom thumbnails are in place prior to indexing. If you add the thumbnails later, the steps are the same as above.
Updating the thumbnails after the fact (without updating the content) requires a slightly different flow.
At this time, updating custom thumbnails only does not trigger changes in the cloud button. So, to replace the custom thumbnails with new ones:
-
Replace the images files with new ones
-
Virtualize thumbnails (either individually, or across the entire channel)
-
If the channel is HiC, select the content (either individually, or multi-select). Right-click and select Publishing > Upload Content to Cloud. This force-publishes content to the cloud.
Finally, re-harvesting will overwrite any custom thumbnails. So after re-harvesting, go back to the channel and re-virtualize the thumbnails (the custom image files will still be in the original location).
Note 2: All of the above applies even if the channel is not ultimately cloud-hosted (i.e. to update existing thumbnails, you still need to either re-index the content or re-virtualize the thumbnails in order for them to update).
It's just that Host in Cloud (HiC) involves extra steps.
