How to Quickly Find "Broken" (Inaccessible) Content in a Channel

Use the Channel Audit tool to quickly identify and manage content which is no longer accessible in a Channel

Requirements

  • AVAIL Desktop version 5.0 or later
  • Can Edit permission in the Channel

Inaccessible content, sometimes referred to as "broken" content, displays a yellow triangle with a message saying "AVAIL is having trouble accessing this file."

Broken content can occur for multiple reasons and can lead to a cluttered and frustrating experience for users.

Use the Channel Audit tool to quickly tag or move all broken content in a Channel so it can more easily be addressed (i.e. removed).

How to Run a Channel Audit

  • In a Channel, select the More Options button
  • Select Run Channel Audit
  • Select Start to begin the audit
  • Then choose between three options:
    • Option 1: Select Move/Copy to Move or Copy the broken items to a different Channel
    • Option 2: Select Tag as 'Broken'  to add Broken as a tag to all identified items
    • Option 3: Cancel to take no further action

Helpful Tips:

Move/Copy

  • If moving content to a different Channel, create a temporary Channel to isolate the broken content and then delete the entire temporary Channel to quickly have broken content removed
  • Moving/Copying content can take longer than adding tags to content. If there is a high volume of broken content, you may prefer to Tag as 'Broken' rather than Move/Copy.

Tag as 'Broken'

  • If you selected Tag as 'Broken' but don't see the tag in your Tags and Filters panel, the Key is likely hidden. You can either:
    • Display the Key by making it visible. The Key will be AVAIL System.
    • Or, perform a text search for Broken. Be aware, it will return results for anything that matches on the term broken.

Caution: If everything in the Channel is identified as broken, ensure you are connected to the source location where the content is hosted. For more on how to identify why content isn't accessible, visit https://helpcenter.getavail.com/error-accessing-file.
