AVAIL Stream for Egnyte: FAQs
A collection of common questions about the AVAIL Stream for Egnyte Integration
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Stream Portal (stream.getavail.com) only for creating the Stream servers? Are my Stream definitions to be created/edited in the AVAIL Desktop app?
Answer: The Stream portal is for creating servers AND creating/managing your Egnyte Stream definitions. Your Egnyte Stream servers/definitions will appear in the desktop interface, but they should only be managed in the Stream web portal.
Can I rename a server once it's created?
Answer: No, there is no way to rename a Stream server. Your only options are to delete the existing server and create a new one.
How do we go about deactivating our old (local) Stream server?
Answer: The local Stream client can run in tandem with the Egnyte integration if you want to monitor folders outside of Egnyte. Otherwise, the local Stream services can be disabled, and the application can be uninstalled.
How many servers are recommended to handle content? Just one for all content? One for multiple channels of similar content? One per channel?
Answer: Our best practice for servers is to create one server per webhook.
A good use case would be to create one server/webhook for your BIM directory and another server/webhook for the Marketing folder directory. Separating the servers and webhooks will make it easier to manage the definitions when multiple directories are being monitored.
How many definitions can be set up inside one server? Is Stream's performance affected if multiple definitions exist within one server?
Answer: There is no limit to the number of definitions that can be set up under one Stream server. In general, Stream's performance will be dependent:
- The number of folders being monitored.
- The volume of changes occurring at once.
The Egnyte integration uses a queue to process changes as they occur. If there is a high volume of adds, edits, and deletes all happening at once, it will take longer for the queue to process and for the changes to appear in AVAIL.
How can we temporarily pause or turn off a server and/or definition?
Answer: No, once the definition is created, it will remain active until it is deleted.
